It took me 8 attempts to get through to reception. I understand that when calling the GP surgery that there is often the need to wait for a receptionist to become available, and that is fine- however, I would wait for 5-10 minutes to get through, and instead of being connected to a receptionist my call would be ended.
Upon finally getting through to a receptionist, I felt as though I was bothering her due to the heavy sighs and irate tone. I fully understand they have a demanding job, however they are still able to be at least polite to patients. I should not have to “hype” myself up to make a phone call to the GP simply because I experience anxiety at the thought of speaking to a rude receptionist.
Extremely unprofessional. I work for the NHS and would never dare communicate with patients in the way some receptionists do there.
