I suffered a Subarachnoid Brain Haemorrhage in January of 2020 while on holiday in Belfast, NI. I spent just over 2 weeks in hospital there and then was discharged home to Glasgow, where I was referred to the Community Treatment Centre for Brain Injury. My main issues were struggling to cope with fatigue and anxiety.
For just over a year, I had weekly to fortnightly sessions with an occupational therapist and then a clinical psychologist, both of whom were so useful and helpful in my recovery. I was able to talk about my feelings surrounding my recovery and get practical, actionable advice on how to improve my work-life and my mental health. Having that regular support, and space to discuss my feelings, with someone who understood what I was going through was fundamental to my recovery.I have recently been discharged from the service with the understanding that I can contact them again at any time should I need any further help and support. I am so grateful to them and the service they provide.
