"Compassionate, supportive and encouraging care"

About: Specialist Therapy Services / Community Stroke Team – South Notts

(as a carer),

I am writing this on behalf of both my mum and myself (as her carer).

A huge thank you to the community stroke team who cover Gedling in Nottinghamshire.

Following 2 strokes my mum was discharged from hospital in September 2021 after a 2 month admission. We were contacted within days of discharge by the stroke team and the next week my mum was working on her recovery goals at home with the Occupational Therapist, the Physiotherapist and the Speech & Language Therapist.

Under their compassionate, supportive and encouraging care my mum has thrived; she’s reached and exceeded her goals. For 8 weeks she’s been visited weekly by a member of each discipline. The input into my mum’s care and recovery has been incredible and she has benefited greatly, as have I.

As main carer for my mum I’ve felt included and supported too and appreciated the advice and guidance provided to me.

My mum wants to add a few words of her own too, “Thank you very much. It was nice to have you. You’ve been so kind and helpful, you’ve helped me so much. I’m so thankful to you and with Christmas coming I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”.

Thea, Isla and Kirsten and everyone else involved with my mum’s care – we can’t thank you enough. You’ve all been amazing and have made such a positive difference to us both in what could have been a very challenging time. Thank you.

Many thanks for taking the time to feedback on your experience with the Community Stroke Team.

I am really pleased that you have found the service helpful and supportive in your mothers recovery. It is really important to us that we hear from patients/carers/family to inform us of how we are doing, in order to shape the delivery of services to provide the best care possible.

Thank you for your kind words about the team. I will be sure to feedback to Thea, Isla, Kirsten and the team, who will be thrilled by your positive feedback.

Reading this feedback has made me so proud of the services we deliver and the staff working within the team. Thank you for your kindness and please accept my best wishes for both yours and your mothers future health.

Thank you so much.

Claire Lee
