Had experienced the frustration of a previous cancellation & it nearly happened again as hospital was under severe bed strain on the day of my admission, however all was well in the end & my operation ( radical cystectomy) was able to proceed. The admission staff & surgeon / anaesthetist had all been to see me & were patient, happy to explain everything I asked about & ensured I was as well informed as possible. They were obviously as frustrated as I was with the critical beds situation which could have resulted in another cancellation plus waste of operating theatre & staff time. Staff remained cheerful & supportive throughout.
I was nervous as I went down to the theatre but staff were reassuring & told me I would be fine. I was well aware that this procedure is a major operation with risks but the staff kept me reassured throughout.
When I came round after the operation the staff around me in the HDU / ICU were there to once again reassure me & kept me pain free.
During the next 9 days of my stay I felt well looked after & have no issues with anything. Staff were helpful & pleasant - all staff - and stoma nurse & physiotherapists were all gentle, empathetic & supportive.
Overall the number of doctors / consultants seen during my stay seemed quite a lot & I only saw my actual consultant once as I recall, but nevertheless I felt that they all wanted to see me improve & become mobile asap with a view to going home soonest but without any feeling that they wanted me out the way! I felt all had my best interests at the heart of what they did.
"good teamwork & I felt confidence in the staff"
