"Proactive breastfeeding support"

About: The Ulster Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

I gave birth to my son in the Ulster Hospital by Caesarean section in June 2021. The hospital was very busy and staff were under a lot of pressure. I had planned to breastfeed my son (first baby) and was very keen to feed him as soon as possible after birth. The midwives, anaesthetist, nurses and assistants were so helpful and really made me feel like my wishes were important. Despite the nurses and midwives being so busy that evening and during the night, they regularly came to help me get baby ‘latched on’ and feeding. I found it difficult and really appreciated their help and care.

I was surprised and pleased that they supported me so proactively at the beginning of our breastfeeding journey.

Dear LeahG,

Congratulation on the birth of your baby in June.

It is lovely to hear that all the staff you met were so committed to supporting you to breastfeed your baby. Being able to support you in this manner helps to build your confidence and ensures that your breastfeeding journey is started in a positive way. I will ensure that this feedback is passed on to the maternity theatre and the maternity ward staff.

I appreciate your taking the time to post this feedback and I am delighted we have been able to offer you this support when it was required.

Kind Regards

Sarah.
