"Myself and the ongoing recovery from bowel cancer."

About: North Devon District Hospital / Colorectal surgery & stoma care

(as a service user),

Following bowel cancer & surgery a decade ago I was living my new normal. This year things changed for the worse & I was concerned. I went to my GP who instantly referred me back to the Colorectal team at NDDH. I was seen within a month by a lovely consultant ( I'd asked for my usual consultant but was told he was off work) I'd not seen before. But she listened to me without assumption and decided that my 10 year colonoscopy should be made a matter of urgency.  My colonoscopy appointment came at the earliest convenient date for me. My procedure did not go to plan & I had 21 polips removed over a 2 hour period. The doctor, again was amazing,  as were the attending nurses. After the procedure the doctor explained what had happened & what came next.  I then received a letter with the outcome & results of the removed Polips. Finally I received my outpatient review by telephone & again given all the time & explanations I needed & wanted. Miss Pansell, Mrs Cross & Mr MacMahon are all just brilliant & a testament to the hospital. My entire experience, that started over 10 years ago and has brought me to here, has been both terrible & difficult but the staff at every level at the hospital, over many years and visits have been amazing.
