"Amazing care from start to finish"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Community Maternity Unit Royal Alexandra Hospital / Maternity care (Ward 31) Royal Alexandra Hospital / Neonatal Unit

(as a service user),

I would like to highlight the amazing care I have received throughout my pregnancy, c-section and post delivery care.

Firstly, my amazing community midwife Victoria - thank you! If it was not for Victoria my story might have had a different outcome. I attended my 34 week community midwife appointment with Victoria and mentioned I had a change in my baby's movements. Victoria called the maternity day unit on my behalf and booked me in to be checked over. I was quite against attending and tried to give my usual "I'll give him a few hours and see if he moves" chat, however Victoria strongly encouraged me to get checked ASAP which I'm now so thankful I did, as after a quick scan I was diagnosed with Oligohydramnios and 3 days later my boy was born via section 5 weeks early! Victoria even came to visit me and my boy on the ward after the section which was so kind.  Her care has been amazing and it needs to be recognised what an amazing midwife she is! I'll miss you!

My consultant was Dr Quinn who had such an amazing bed side manner. Thankyou for ensuring I received the necessary interventions prior to my boy arriving, and thank you for arranging my section which I was so unbelievably nervous about, but so thankful with how it all turned out! You gave me the information I needed to be confident the right decisions were being made, which was very important to me. Thank you for everything and enjoy your retirement!

Kezia the sonographer who initially spotted the lack of water around baby was also amazing. You were so calm and talked us through everything you were looking at and what your findings were. Thank you for taking that extra bit of time to explain things - it was an anxious and unexpected time to say the least!

A massive thankyou to Midwife Annie and her student in recovery - you talked me down from a soon to be panic attack. I seriously do not think I could have gone through with the section without your reassurance. Also the kindness, compassion and most of all the dignity you provided post section I will never forget. It is hard being a patient at the best of times, but being numb from the waist down was quite an experience and you guys were SO lovely to me. I will never forget your kindness.

My theatre experience was surprisingly lovely. All of the theatre staff talking me through everything and keeping me calm during the spinal - absolute angels. We even had a laugh mid-section, the atmosphere was absolutely surreal. I would go as far as to say I really enjoyed my section because of all of you guys. What an amazing job you all do!

Finally, a massive thank you to the SCBU team who cared for my boy for 2 days after he was born. You were so gentle with him and it was so reassuring to know he was being so well cared for when I wasn't able to be with him 24/7 during my recovery. To all of the midwives and dotors who took the time to explain to us what was happening to our baby and what each wire, probe and tube were doing really helped with my anxiety and I will be forever grateful for the care you gave to us all as a family.

I really can't put into words how grateful I am for the amazing care I have received from start to finish. I hope this very small token of appreciation reaches you all, you really do deserve a medal for the work you all do. I will never forget this experience it truly has been amazing, and I hope to see you all again for the next baby (maybe!) :)
