"Newborn bronchiolitis"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Ward 1D Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a service user),

My little boy who was only 19 days old had to be blue lighted to the children's hospital in Glasgow Sunday afternoon! When he got there he was transferred to CDU and kept an eye on, before being discharged home he took a really bad turn and stopped breathing for several seconds. The staff being quick acting managed to keep bringing him round and not only that when the situation was stressful, they helped reassure my husband and I that everything was going to be okay.

He was then placed upstairs to the ICU where I can’t thank the staff enough, Nicola was absolutely amazing with him on day shift and I felt that she gave him the love especially when I wasn’t there in the morning and when going home. Nightshift we sadly never met but always happy and chatty when we called and had nothing but lovely things to say about my boy!

He was then moved along to ward 2C who were just amazing. They went out of their way for not only him but myself and my husband. Always making sure we were okay and if we ever needed anything. No question was a silly question, we became a bit paranoid about his breathing but the lovely nurse put him on the sats machine and pulse machine so it could ease our minds he was doing just as amazing as they all said! Nightshift we’re lovely and I cannot fault them at all! Making sure it was okay to check him over (always was of course) but just not wanting to disturb him too much!

I honestly will be forever grateful for this service and what they have done for us. From the paramedics who stayed with me until he was admitted to the ward, to every single staff member and also the student nurses who dealt with him they will forever hold a special place in my heart especially when I thought I was going to loose my little boy!

Dear demixmcfall,

Sorry to hear about how unwell your little boy has been, that must have been a very scary time for you and your husband, I hope he is now on the recovering.

Thank you for taking the time out to post your experience of your son's journey and the lovely comments about all the wards during your son's stay in the RHC.

Although it was a very frightening experience with your son stopping breathing! it was good to hear staff in CDU, were able to reassure you and your husband, whilst making sure your son was given the care he required.

Whilst your were in the ICU, it must have been reassuring, to know that the staff were looking after you son, showing him care and attention, and were happy to update you on his condition throughout the night, we will pass on your thanks to Nicola who was looking after him, as she will be happy to hear your comments.

As your son was transferred to ward 2C, it was good to hear that the care and attention he received continued on the ward, and the staff there were also able to reassure you and your husband whilst in their care, answering your questions, putting you both at ease and reassured with what was happening.

your post will be passed on to all the wards that your son was in, to be shared with the staff. I am sure they will be happy to hear of your experience whilst your son was in their care. Thank you for taking the time to give the feedback on Care Opinion, especially after the journey your son and you as parents have both had, it is greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Mandy

Dear Demixmcfall

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your feedback. I am really sorry to read about your little boy being unwell. I can only imagine how stressful and worrying this must have been.

I am delighted to read about the wonderful services involved in your little boys care and this must have offered some reassurance when you couldn't be with him too.

Our staff really appreciate when members of the public take the time to post feedback and I would be delighted to pass on your thanks. If you would like me to do this for you, please may I ask you get in touch with our team at sas.feedback@nhs.scot with your son's name, date and address of where we attended. Please may you also make reference to your care opinion user name which will help us easily link to your story.

I really hope your little boy is on the mend and feeling a lot better now

Thanks again

Kind Regards

Lesley
