Due to back pain and disappearing movement I called up as instructed by my doctor. I was advised my back pain would be nerve related and that movements were not expected to be regular (although they had been for the last 2 weeks). The lady on the phone (Sue) begrudgingly told me I could come in. On arrival people were moaning about having been waiting 4 hours, I was seen after around 2 hours and then told to wait for the doctor. In this time multiple people came in, and no one seemed to be being seen. The doctor was down in A&E and not answering any calls. Being Short-staffed I can sympathise with however what I witnessed over my time in the unit was a shocking lack of care. A lady came in via ambulance due to searing pain where she had had a ceasarian 3 days prior. After beginning to recover at home she had then gone downhill and it was clear to see was in a terrible amount of pain. Her cries were ignored so she began yelping ‘please help me, help, somebody’. The lady on the triage reception looked unconcerned and said 2 secs before answering the phone. After the phone call she walked off past the lady screaming in pain into another room and didn’t come back for around 10 minutes. For the next 30 minutes no one came to this woman’s aid, everyone in the waiting room was clearly feeling increasingly awkward and helpless. I ended up leaving as I couldn’t bare to witness her pain any longer. Throughout the entire time I was there there were no updates given on the wait, no apologies made and a seeming carelessness, it truly was a shocking eye opening experience. The staff were talking about the patients as if we were not there. I left and immediately began investigating how to change my choice of hospital to give birth in!
"Awful petrifying experience"
