"Could not ask for better staff"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Daisy Paediatric Ward

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

After our daughter was becoming unwell, we were sent straight Daisy Hill Hospital upon referral from the GP.

Our time on the ward has been really good so far. All the staff have been excellent - nurses Sheila, Caroline and Sharon have all been fantastic.

It is absolutely brilliant to get a side room - especially with a toddler - and the toys provided have been amazing. However, there are only a few small things which could be improved:

Firstly, the blinds on the window are not very good when it comes to blocking out light. It would be so much better if the same blinds that are on the door and glass facing onto the ward were on the windows as well, as these blinds are so much better.

Furthermore, we were only given a large chair for the overnight stay, which wasn't the most comfortable. Pull down beds would be better, but I appreciate they may be in short supply or our side room too small for this.

Apart from this, everything else has been fine and really could not ask for better staff.

Dear saturntx35 thank you for your feedback and sharing your experience with us. The staff are great; Sheila, Caroline and Sharon will be pleased to read you kind words. I will certainly bring to the attention of the team.

In relation to the bed in your room; majority of the rooms have pull down beds, however in a couple of rooms there was not the room to incorporate a built in bed which was out of our control. This is unfortunate as we know parents need to have a good nights sleep, however I do know the staff do work around to try and facilitate parents with alternative sleeping arrangement. We will look into this to see if there is any other alternatives to consider. Thank you for bringing to our attention.

I wish you and your daughter well

Regards

Bernie

Thankyou saturntx35 for sharing your experience with us. The positive feedback will be shared with Sheila, Caroline and Sharon.

Most of our rooms do have pull down beds incorporated into them, unfortunately some of the rooms did not have the space to allow for pull down beds. We do understand the importance of a parents getting a good nights sleep. We will look at alternatives to the pull out chairs for future parents

I hope your daughter continues to keep well

Ciara
