"discharging my self from hospital"

About: West Middlesex University Hospital / Accident and emergency West Middlesex University Hospital / Respiratory medicine

(as a service user),

I initially went into A and E ,on the advise from the 111 service ,I had pain in my left leg so severe that i Was unable  walk ,and was coughing up black coloured phlegm.(I have a history of long covid, and lung damage from having covid} and had been admitted twice after covid with pneumonia, they said it called  organising pneumonia and I was on life time medication for this.

When I got to the hospital I was very swiftly booked in and seen by a doctor in the major unit, and they were very thorough with the investigation of my symptoms.

I was admitted to ward  AMU, and the treatment was very good , I had an mri scan done of my back and it showed I had 2 bulging discs at the bottom of my spine ,which were pressing on nerves which was causing this awful pain down my left side from buttock to thigh ,calf and foot . my left foot was now numb and there was an increased amount of weakness on that left leg ,and the pain was getting worse

For this injury ,my dr said we had to  wait for a plan from the neuro surgeons as to what to do. this would be at a different hospital up in london
The chest infection ?Pneoumonia?  Was being treated with antibiotics and nebuliser and pumps.

Then after a few days I moved from the amu  to a ward called syon 2 . I realised that I wasn't actually in a ward,I was in a physiotherapy store room , all the equipment had been piled into a corner, there was another lady there and only one call bell, and one lot of oxygen supply.

The other lady had breathing problems like myself but worse, the nurse said to use the toilet in the corridor, I had a catheter, but the other lady had to go off and find it. There was no commode .

So about half hour later the other lady went to find the toilet and came back, almost collapsed, I was telling her to ring the bell, the call bell did not work! so I started screaming as loud as as I could for help, after a minute or so 4 people came running into the room ,and they were all panicking, the lady could not breath she had sats of 87 ,and was taken out to her other ward .this then left me very shaken ,short of breath, coughing, I wanted to discharge my self then but I knew my lungs weren't good yet, but even though they the brought in a commode ,and a guy to fix the call bell in the morning , they had someone sit with me ,I didnt take my tablets as i was scared to be alone with a male member of staff, i just didnt feel comfortable, so i stayed awake all night. my blood pressure was 187 over 89 the next morning!

Eventually the next day I got a bed in the ward, it was when I was being wheeled in I realised just how far the nurses station was from the room I had been in, I suspect there was no risk assessment done before making it available for 2 beds!

So , I was then in the ward ,and my lungs were improving, but I was getting increasing pain down the left side ,the dr kept saying they were waiting on a plan from charring cross hospital, the pain was becoming unbearable and the pain killers they were giving me just wernt working,

I saw the pain team ,and we agreed a plan of pain relief and the doctor said they would be back later that  to see if it was working. But they didnt turn up, all that night and all the next day I was rolling on the bed in excruciating pain, my Dr said they couldnt do anything until they had spoken to the pain team. Nothing all day, then late afternoon the physio came, and said she would speak to the pain team and tell them the pain I was in ,and I had asked to be out on tablets that id previously used a few years ago when I broke my back, I didnt like them because they made me twitch ,and they had suggested before to try but id see how I was, but now I was begging to go on them , despite the twitch ,anything to get rid of the pain

Time was getting o and they were busy, I knew that ,but I asked to see someone and the dr who had been seeing me then told me the pain team had gone home, and the physio had gone home as well! This meant I would have to suffer the whole weekend in this unbearable pain.

This just pushed me over the edge, I was really crying and really really upset.

My husband turned up to visit and I said I wanted to go home, he spoke to the dr ,and the response was, tell her if she wants to go home, go, if she wants tablets give her tablets!

My husband agreed, so I signed a form and had my catheter and left I could not weight bear, I had not passed urine, but took my tablets as soon as I got home ,I actually slept all night .

I phoned my gp the next day, she gave me steroids and antibiotics.

I dont know what to do now though, I need feedback from neurology, and I need physiotherapy.

I have not received any information about my condition with the lungs, or my back, so am in limbo.
