About: Lister Hospital

At 42 years of age I have visited A&E only 3 times. I attended due to falling hard on my coccyx which caused indescribable pain. On arrival I was told I couldn’t have anyone with me due to COVID (fair enough) I was unable to sit due to extreme pain so I was placed in a side room so I could lay(I was so thankful for this) 6 hours later I was still laying there with no one checking I was OK and hadn’t even been triaged or given pain relief.I was vomiting due to the pain and unsure what damage I had caused so quite upset. I pressed my bell for help as I couldn’t get off the bed but 30 minutes later no one came... numerous health care professionals looked into the room looking for their patient and ignored me and that I was asking for help. I managed to get myself to the door and I asked a lady for help, she said “no I’m with someone”she was actually having a laugh with another member of staff. I eventually got seen, had x rays and sent home with pain relief. 4 hours later I began to bleed, knowing this wasn’t a period I called 111, I was immediately told to return for fear of kidney or bladder damage. The doctor who saw me said it’s just a period, no it wasn’t as I’d had it the previous week. He advised to see my GP!! So I asked the reason I could be bleeding. “It just happens” he decided to examine me abdominally and didn’t pull my top up and basically did a slight touch and said to go home! So here I am and the bleeding is getting heavier and I don’t know what to do. The elderly were left for hours. People were given drips in the waiting area. No social distancing. A pregnant lady clearly in distress left. I understand they are so overworked, understaffed and it’s been beyond a bad year but where has the human compassion gone. Private health care here I come. This is one hospital that is scarily not meeting basic needs. I feel for the elderly or those less able to to speak up, especially now family aren’t allowed to be there. And yes they did ask people to leave who were clearly there to support someone vulnerable Shocking!! People must have and will lose their life in such circumstances. Do these reviews actually get addressed? Or maybe it’s just another ticky box. If you can avoid it, NEVER go to this hospital. Also on my first visit no triage was ever done, no observations taken, this is necessary to know a persons basic base line of health upon arrival. I’m not a negative review writer, however on this occasion I felt I couldn’t sit back and say nothing.
