I recently gave birth to my daughter at the Borders General Hospital. I’m a first time mum and my only idea of what to expect came from friends experiences or mum’s forums etc. I was impressed from the moment I arrived at the maternity unit by the staff’s calm and supportive manner and their unending kindness and assistance over the labour itself and the next few days of recovery. I struggled initially with breastfeeding and I cannot emphasis enough how lucky I feel to have been kept in the ward for 4 days after my daughter was born with round the clock help to get us both comfortable with feeding.
I’m sure I’m not alone in finding being in charge of a newborn very daunting and without the tireless support from the BGH maternity team, I wouldn’t have felt nearly so confident taking her home and settling in to our new life. It has also been invaluable to have the community midwife visit the day after we were discharged and to continue to offer visits to make sure both the baby and I are progressing well.
A huge, huge thank you to everyone involved in my care.
