"Care given to my dad"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department University Hospital Hairmyres / Surgical Receiving Unit (Ward 4)

(as a relative),

My dad was asked to attend Accident and Emergency, following a conversation the family had with NHS24 as we were concerned that his symptoms following an earlier head injury had worsened. The staff at reception were friendly and made us feel relaxed. We had a very long wait in the department due to only one radiographer being on for the hospital (just over 6.5hrs), and we had to wait to find out if my dad was to be admitted to the ward.

All of the nurses were extremely friendly, professional and kind. When we were transferred up to the ward, ward 4, the nurses kindly let me in to settle dad and deliver his overnight bag to him. Heartfelt thanks to all, please remember it is the little things you do, sometimes just a wee bit of humour that can make all the difference to patients. Fabulous nurses, and the doctors in A&E were kind too and the porter was also friendly and funny.

Dear Three

Thank you for posting your valuable feedback regarding your dad's recent admission to University Hospital Hairmyres.

I'm sorry to hear he suffered a head injury. It must've been a worrying time for you both.

I am delighted to read that you found nursing and reception staff to be professional, friendly and kind however I apologise for the long wait he experienced in our Emergency Department. Unfortunately we are experiencing an increase in the number of patients attending our department and this can lead to some delays.

I will gladly pass on your thanks to staff in the ED and ward 4 as well as the portering staff. I agree when you say its the little things which make a difference to our patients.

I do hope this finds your dad feeling better.

Kind Regards

Carol
