I attended my local treatment room in June about a health concern and the nurses informed a GP of my issue, I was examined by the GP then referred to my local hospital for further tests. I was diagnosed with cancer in September at Causeway Hospital, had a consultation at Antrim Area Hospital at the start of October and admitted to Belfast City Hospital at the start of November to have surgery to remove the cancer.
I was extremely nervous about the whole process, unsure of what they would find or what treatment would be required. I underwent general anaesthetic for the procedure, another process I was extremely worried about. Afterwards I spent time at two wards in Belfast City Hospital receiving care until I was fit to return home. The care I received from every person throughout this entire process has been outstanding. Every single person, doctors, consultants, anaesthetists, surgeons, nurses, HCAs, domestic staff, porters and students (hopefully I have named them all) have been kind, caring, professional, reassuring and have made me feel at ease and kept me calm when I became panicked at the thought of what I was going through. I felt looked after by the dedicated staff, from the moment I first approached my GP surgery about my concerns.
