"Lack of knowledge of diabetic care"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Accidents & Emergency

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Antrim Area Hospital A&E a week ago without pneumonia. I'm also Type 1 diabetic for the last 33 years. I am literally shocked by the lack of knowledge of the staff. I know what insulin I need and leaving me to wait for an hour and then eat without having any insulin is appalling. I understand the whole situation with getting doctors to sign off medication but then have absolutely no idea what I need and even worse they don't listen to you either. The diabetic care is ridiculous and if I'm ever back here I'll be self medicating like I have for the last 33 years!
