Mum was entering pallative care phase following the spread of her lung cancer and was becoming confused.
Due to different family views it meant that there was some denial and minimizing of need for pain relief ,personal hygiene, mobilising and dignity and I didn't know where to turn.
After numerous and endless passing around from one professional to another I finally got to speak with Sarah physio with District Nursing team and raised my concerns with her and felt that these were heard and she arranged a family meeting with mum present
Sarah addressed the concerns I had about my mum from her prospective as a professional which was accepted by my siblings in the best interest for mum at a time when mum was muddled and unable articulate her needs herself.
Sarah highlighted the importance of hygiene. Pain relief and safe handling techniques and suggested equipment and adaptations that would help assist mum to live at home.
Sarah also followed up that these were put in place.
I was put at ease at how Sarah had presented these concerns to the family and actioned necessary referrals to services and was then able to sleep better knowing that my mum was being cared for rightfully.
Sadly our mum passed away at the end of October 2021.
Myself and my wife will be forever grateful for Sarah's rounded view and keeping my mum at the centre of everything. It really shouldn't have been such a battle. Thank you for your input and understanding
