"A choking incident"

About: Northern Ireland Ambulance Service Royal Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

On Friday I was at home alone when I suddenly choked on a piece of food. I tried coughing and tried to take some water but continued to choke. I realised that I was having difficulty breathing so had to call 999. From the second the call was answered everyone was so helpful. The two paramedics were fabulous and took time to settle me but because the food was lodged in my throat I was taken to the RVH. I wish I had taken the names of the paramedics as they were so kind, reassuring and professional.

Dear Felicity62

What a traumatic and extremely frightening experience that must have been for you!

Thankfully the clinicians who arrived with you were able to settle you with their calm, reassuring and professional approach. It is extremely special to hear compliments such as yours after such a dangerous episode and heartwarming that you feel so strongly, you took time to offer your compliments directly via the careopinion feedback forum.

I would love to share your comments directly with the staff who attended you however I would need a few extra details to help me identify them. If you would be prepared to discuss this further, please contact me on amanda.sweetlove@nias.hscni.net

I hope you are recovering well.

Kind regards

Amanda
