"Children's Ward has been brilliant"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Daisy Paediatric Ward Daisy Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

We came to Daisy Hill by ambulance when my son was taken unwell.  The ambulance staff were perfect - really fantastic.

Our time in A&E was great - very short, lasting only about an hour. All the staff were great.

Up on the Daisy Children's Ward it has been brilliant - I really couldn't fault it. The staff have been really good - especially with the handover. All the nurses when switching over were really very keen to be informed about everything which was going on which was quite nice and very reassuring. When it comes to staff members, I really could not mention anyone in particular - they have all been great.

When it comes to the ward itself it has been brilliant - the beds for the parents to sleep on are a god-send. The TV is also really good to have in the rooms as I can put CBeebies on to help keep my son occupied when staying on the ward.

The only thing I am confused about is the food situation for the mum. I have been given tea and toast this morning but am confused about what I would do without my husband bringing me in food. Other than this our hospital stay has been great.

Dear yellowmq76

Unfortunately, as a result of the pandemic the parents room is out of use and parents would be required to bring their own provisions.

Parents can also avail of the shop, coffee bar and vending machines are available at hospital reception area.

Dear yellowmq76

Thank you for your kind words about your stay on the Children's Ward. I am so glad that the facilities in the room made your stay comfortable and I am pleased to hear that you were kept informed at all times.

Unfortunately due to the pandemic access to the parents room is no longer possible and whilst this does not sit comfortably with the nursing staff they are bound to adhere to infection control guidance.

Regards

Bernie
