"Nurses need training to be ‘nice’"

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

Experiences with the nurses and midwife is appalling, there is no empathy, no eye contact when talking to patient, sometimes it’s nice to have a bit of emphathy especially when you are crying and they don’t care at all and simply ignore it. We understand they are are busy but I see them chatting with their colleagues all jolly but treatment to patients is the opposite. It isn’t hard to smile, make eye contact, speak to them respectfully and to say a kind word when they are upset- it makes a huge difference to patients.

Doctors on the other hand, extremely pleased with their behaviour towards patients, they listen and try their best to help and are polite in their speech and behaviour. I don’t understand why nurses can’t be the same, if they don’t like their job they shouldn’t be working with patients.

I was pleased with the Porter who was extremely helpful and kind when I was waiting in the A&E. I was upset and in pain, and waiting for a Porter, even though she was busy with another patient, she made the time to smile and ask if I have been dealt with, she even enquired if my Porter was coming. This really made me feel welcome for and cared while I was sitting on my own at the reception as no family was allowed in with me.
