I was recently admitted to 11B for an infected cyst on my neck. I was seen at the treatment room first by Kirstie. She was very friendly and approachable, I was very reassured. When I was seen by Miss Clark she advised that I would need to be admitted for IV Antibiotics and E+D of the infection. Miss Clark was exactly the kind of surgeon I needed, quick decision making with good follow up and a good sense of humour!
The surgery was the following day and it went very smoothly.
My wound has now healed, I was given a pack of wound management resources by Kirstie so I could keep my wound clean and dressed. This definitely helped to speed up the healing process and leave a nice, clean scar.
Every single nurse, HCA, porter, radiographer, and doctor that I came into contact with were amazing. The ward were clearly under pressure at times due to staffing but this did not hinder their caring nature. As a nurse myself, I felt very cared for (a little too much sometimes, I don't need you to change my bed for me! But us nurses are known to be the worst patients anyway haha).
I want to give a special shout out to all the nurses in 11B, Kirstie, Miss Clark and her Reg, all the theatre staff, and the radiographers who performed my CT.
It gives you amazing perspective when you're on the other side of care and I'm so grateful for everyone's time and patience.
