"Emergency cesarean"

About: Maternity care (wards 68, 72 &73) / Labour suite The Princess Royal Maternity Unit / Maternity care (wards 68, 72 &73) The Princess Royal Maternity Unit / Neonatal Unit

(as a service user),

Following my induction on ward 72 I was taken to the labour suite for the next stage of my daughters birth. I was assisted to the labour suite by Emily (who was helping on ward 72 on Thursday, I think she may work in the labour suite though). She stayed behind her shift to help me downstairs and get me settled into the room. I was in extreme pain and she was honestly fantastic. Thank you Emily.

I was looked after by the lovely Ruth and student midwife Kered. These lovely souls helped to get my pain under control in a short space of time. Sophie, the anaesthetist was amazing also and her epidural provided amazing relief and she was outstanding.

Kered and Ruth were fantastic and I felt like I had known them forever, they are honestly an asset to the NHS. When I found out I would likely need a section, I was so emotional and Kered was like the friend I needed when I needed them the most. She is honestly going to be the best midwife.

Ruth was also outstanding in her patient care and kept me informed of all my choices all the way throughout the journey. She is fantastic and so supportive!  They reassured my husband and made sure he was ok as well.

The band 6s and 7s were also outstanding as well and would pop in and provide continued reassurance. I was looked after by Laura the doctor also, who I cannot thank enough for the safe delivery of my baby in theatre and her support throughout delivery. Please thank her for us.

Special shout out to the theatre staff who were present that morning, everyone played a special part in the wee ones entry!  Jennifer the anaesthetist was tremendous and was so supportive, as a nurse myself, I think sometimes you can know more than you wish and Jennifer calmed me down and she was amazing. Andy also has a special mention from my husband, he helped so much.

Your senior midwife team also joined us in theatre and helped to keep the atmosphere light and positive and made a huge impact on my husband, who was terrified.

It all ended with the birth of a big and healthy baby and we will never forget our experience, from induction in ward 72 to delivery in theatre. Thank you to all the girls in recovery also, they helped me in the space of time before I was admitted to post natal care. Again, amazing midwives.

Last but not least, a massive thank you to Leigh Anne and all of the staff in the post natal ward. Every step of the way they helped me to care for my little girl and also for myself. The ward itself was so busy and nothing was ever a hassle for the staff. It’s very scary being a new mum and I was never left to feel overwhelmed, so thank you!

I know this is only a small thing but I would like everyone to know that they will always be remembered and thanked for her safe arrival and care.

Dear Ldj1988,

Congratulations on the birth of your new baby daughter! Thank- you so much for posting such heart-warming feedback, you have really made my day and I am in no doubt that of the many staff you have highlighted throughout your delivery journey.

I am absolutely delighted that through what must have been such an anxious and stressful time for you the midwives, anaesthetists, doctors and students have made such a impact and provided you with such a positive memory. It will be such a lovely memory to share with your daughter in the years to come.

I will of course share your story with all the staff in the unit, especially those you have so kindly taken the time to name.

I hope you are enjoying this special time together as a new family and thank you again for taking the time to contact us,

Kind regards,

Vicki Mazzoni
