"Developing coping mechanisms"

About: Adult Mental Health Services - Community (County) / Gedling Local Mental Health Team (LMHT)

(as a service user),

I worked with my OT to develop coping mechanisms for my anxieties. I have GAD and struggle mainly with getting on the bus and being around people. We worked on developing skills to put into place before I got on the bus and then more coping mechanisms for whilst I was on the bus. At first I was apprehensive as I'd tried some techniques alone before and they had not worked, but with the support and encouragement of my OT it made me realise that it was possible to overcome my panic. I have worked with my OT for a few months and it's definitely helped me to improve my independence in regards to travelling and being around people.

Good Afternoon emily.h,

May I say thank you for taking the time to share your experiences, it is really helpful to receive feedback and it can be motivational for others. I am pleased that you have started to feel the benefit of working with the OTs at Gedling LMHT. It takes strength to battle Anxiety and takes a lot of work on your part, so I am glad that you found the support to do this beneficial.

I wish you all the best with your recovery journey and I shall share this feedback with the OTs at Gedling LMHT.

Kind Regards

SallyAnn Summers
