"Paediatric admission"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Paediatrics

(as a service user),

My daughter was recently admitted to DGRI paediatric ward. We couldn’t fault the nursing care received and the effort they went to support us. However the medical team were the opposite, very limited information/communication, on taking bloods from my 3 year old who was distressed the medic said not to be silly in a very unfriendly manner. We then didn’t receive the diagnosis from the medics we got a phone call a week later from another service which was surprising given we hadn’t been informed of anything at point of discharge. Very disappointing! Better communication required from medics to support a good patient experience. We had 3 different encounters with different medics who all gave differing opinion/information which was upsetting and confusing. I work within NHS and didn’t feel our experience was representative of the good communication that should happen!

Hi Corvusce43, thank you for the lovely comment in relation to the nursing staff who were looking after your daughter during her recent admission to the children's ward. I feel that its important that we work as a team and I would like to look into the situation regarding the blood teats and results as its really important that we deliver excellent care across the board as a team.

I would be very happy if you could e-mail me on kirstine.burns@nhs.scot or ring me on 01387241508 to discuss the situation further.

Kirstine Burns. Senior charge nurse
