"Needing telephone appointment for my child"

About: Chapelgreen Practice

(as a parent/guardian),

For four days I've been ringing my surgery and still cant get an appointment. My 15 year old diabetic daughter has a nasty rash growing and growing every day for no apparent reason. She banged her thigh 2 and half weeks ago causing an instant large bruise. This bruise went from red to purple and hasn't changed colour since. Over the past week a nasty red rash has grown over this area on her leg over the bruise.

I've been ringing and ringing my surgery, Chapelgreen practice, but they hang up when I'm finally number one in the queue over several times a day. When I do eventually get through and explain about my daughter all I get is " its past 10.30am now and she cant be seen today... you need to ring us again in the morning before 10.30am to get seen". I ring from 8.30am each day but takes me till past 10.30am to either get through or hang up on me. I phoned 111 who were very helpful and tried their best to advise us but strongly advised shes seen by my gp ASAP.

I even went to my local pharmacy in desperation to show them a picture of daughters leg to see if can try over the counter products but say it looks like an infection and needs a doctor to prescribe antibiotics. I've tried telling this to my gp surgery in which they keep telling me to try again next day and if she becomes ill or gets a temperature during this time to take her to A&E, which I'm trying to avoid to save the NHS time to see a more sick child. I'm now having to travel over 2 hours on 2 buses to get her to the walk in centre to get seen, god knows how many hours waiting time and a further 2 hours on 2 buses back home. This service is ridiculous! Shes a 15 year old diabetic who needs antibiotics and my local gp will not take this into consideration when I'm ringing up.

I feel like crying because I cannot help her and seeing her in discomfort is horrible. I'd happily pay for over the counter medication, I'm even willing to get her seen privately if it gets her seen quicker. This service is not on! I'm a busy parent not having time in the day to be constantly ringing round nhs services to get her seen and certainly dont have the time to take off work to visit the walk in service, which is practically a day out for us. My gp are not showing us any consideration, or any caring, no empathy and have not made the effort to help my child, especially as one with long term health conditions which may make her original symptoms worse.
