My dad was admitted to Ward 7c at QEUH knowing he was terminally ill and that there was little more that could be done for him. He was in the ward for 3 weeks in total, but it was the last 2 weeks in which it became apparent his condition was significantly worsening and that palliative care was the most that could be provided.
I would like to thank Dr Anderson and his team for being open and honest with my Dad and our family but also being caring and compassionate. There was never any pressure to leave the ward which is ultimately where he felt safe. Although all options where discussed with us.
The Palliative Care Team under Lesa were also very supportive.
In particular I would like to thank the nursing team, auxiliaries and domestic staff for looking after my dad, mum and I during our time on the ward. Some names we recall are Jerri, Louise, Bernie, Kimberley, Sojan, Jesus and James the Domestic. Although there were others.
We know times have been difficult for the NHS but we were not aware of this on Ward 7c as staff were attentive and supportive.
Many thanks to you all.
