"30 hr pt Journey from A&E to SAU"

About: New Cross Hospital / Accident and emergency New Cross Hospital / General surgery New Cross Hospital / Urology

(as a service user),

HI,

I have to share my experience of attending your A & E dept also leading to an admission to SAU. This journey in total took approximately 30hrs from admission to discharge. I have to say that I was absolutely impressed with how my journey went and the care which I received was absolutely brilliant. The care teams involved showed compassion, integrity and I witnessed what I can only describe as some phenomenal nursing care.

While I was sitting in A&E waiting area looking around, you certainly get an idea of the overwhelming pressure on your services. I take my hat off to the staff dealing with those difficult situations, from my own personal experience and observations, you are all amazing.

I would like to give a massive shout out to the brilliant staff in SAU in particular Ed and Romeo. From the minute those guys walked in the bay early morning (for a very long shift!) until my discharge later that day, I received, witnessed and observed, the most brilliant care from these guys. They were non-stop, nothing was too much trouble, showing compassion and care above and beyond the role of any carer I have ever witnessed. I observed the preservation of dignity in the most respectful manner throughout. You could see the team work and professional relationships between all the staff but these guys were on another level.

Yes, this is only my experience, however as an experienced HCP myself I felt it my duty to recommend that Ed, Romeo and the rest of the teams receive some positive recognition/feedback. As much as myself and other patients were constantly saying how brilliant these guys are, I think they took that with a pinch of salt as we all do -  'its just my job' -  but not anyone could do what you do every day and it shows. I felt that my own personal experience needed to be shared with you and to massively reiterate to you that you truly are AMAZING. Stay strong everyone, I cannot thank you enough.

And keep the humour going, difficult I know, but one thing you can forget when you are the care givers, in my opinion it's the humanistic side that matters to your patients more than the professionalism, whilst we have to remain professional we must never forget that we are all human too!

Sent with much appreciation and heartfelt thanks!
