My mum (76) found herself in a situation where upon she had to attend Emergency Dept at CAH. The place was packed to over flowing and all staff from admin to nurses, to doctors were under immense pressure. Overwhelmed is a word I would definitely have used.
The doctor who saw mum in ED was fabulous in every way and ensured mum was red flagged for the Head & Neck Team's immediate attention.
Within days mum was called for ultrasound, consultations and a CT scan. Honestly even though I wish to acknowledge "all" of the staff in "both departments" there is 1 nurse in particular in the Head & Neck team who will never realise just how truly valuable her help was Wednesday past when I didnt know who else to turn to or where to go in relation to mum. Her duty of care, her professionalism and her kindness shone above and beyond those who had gone before her. Our Angel nurse heard my anxiety and deep concern on the phone and came to the rescue. She got mum an appointment immediately for clinic the next morning. The relief in getting that appointment was immense and really felt like I had just got 6 numbers on the lotto. When we arrived for clinic the same nurse called mum and where upon both mum and I thought it was for her (the nurse) to have a wee check on mum and refer her on to see her consultant which would have been very much appreciated I can tell you, we got the shock of our lives when we saw our main man, mums own consultant sitting in his chair waiting on her. I actually filled up with relief and gratitude. This is 1 nurse I shall never forget and how she made such a difference to my family that day, so to that nurse, you know who you are, thank you kindly xIt is sad and shameful that today some people continue to critise and harass our hospital staff amidst this pandemic. If only those people showed the same level of respect to the staff in hospitals that the staff have shown to us, what a wonderful world it would be. May God bless each and every one of you and keep you all in his care x
