"Non-judemental, welcoming and put me at ease"

About: Marie Stopes International Manchester Centre

I found out I was expecting very late. It was an unplanned pregnancy and complete shock so my immediate decision was a termination for personal reasons. I had to undergo a two day surgical procedure that I was extremely nervous about and my anxiety the day before the first part of the procedure for some reason was through the roof! I initially had booked in with Bpas however the appointment wait was much longer and no where near me i just wish i would of rang MSI choices first but eventually i got there a week later had a scan and was booked in for a surgical late term abortion two weeks later. Initially at Manchester, however my first apt for the prep was changed to the Leeds clinic, this added emotional stress but couldn't be helped i was just relieved i could still attend the Manchester clinic the following day. There was also a nurse i was familiar with at Leeds who worked at Manchester ( she had scanned me at my first consultation - i cant remember her name but want to thank her so much as she made me feel a lot more at ease and a bit relieved) My emotions were all over the place. I knew I definitely didn’t want to go through with the pregnancy but I felt very guilty due to how far along I was this was by no means an easy decision. I was frustrated at myself for not knowing any sooner as i already have a child how did i miss this? When I attended day 1 of my appointment, the nurse was a God send. She asked if I was certain about my decision and was non-judgmental when I said I was, she thoroughly explained the procedure and risks and I would say overall, she really put my mind at ease and helped me to put all of my thoughts into perspective.

So when it came to day 2 of the procedure, I was calm and knew I was in safe hands. I waited around 1 hour 45 mins after arriving at the centre at 7.30 and was the first to be taken down, i felt so anxious and worried about the general anaesthetic but it all happened so quickly and i was asleep before i knew it. I woke up, not knowing what had happened, I was well looked after by the team whom looked after me. I was quite upset coming around however all the ladies were lovely and made me feel at ease in the recovery. I had some observations, a snack and drink and around 40 mins later was able to go home.

I just wanted to share my review so early on as i had searched hours on end worrying over the procedure, watching videos online, forums feeling sick with worry and i honestly can say it was no where near as bad as i assumed. Its never going to be a nice experience going through a termination but the ladies who work at MSI Manchester make your time there a lot easier and rest assured - you are all Amazing, thank you x
