Iam writing to commend your psychotherapist Paula. I have been attending therapies sessions with her since 2018 at the Aisling Centre in Enniskillen and more recently by telephone appointments due to the current covid situation. It would be almost impossible for me to express my deep and heartfelt gratitude towards Paula. She has been instrumental in a truly incredible growth and awareness process within me. I am honestly nearly brought to tears when I think of the wounded and terrified individual I was when I entered therapy with Paula. I felt she gently took me under her wing and allowed me for the first time in my life to genuinely talk about my experiences and how deeply I was scarred by them.
I sometimes felt that the therapy was challenging and it caused me to face up to my learned helplessness. Paula truly has tremendous acumen. She was also very wise to introduce the possibility of our therapy sessions naturally drawing to a close. As sad and as frightened as this made me feel, she was right! The ending of therapy catapulted me on a journey of self-acceptance, as well as acceptance of the painful and traumatic events I have endured. I could never hope to repay her kindness, faith, strength and wisdom; she made me believe in myself for the first time in my life. She was able to hold a vision for me reaching my full potential, I was needless to say unable to see or acknowledge this at the time. Abuse and trauma can have horrific impacts on people lives and I can only pray that departments such as yours are invested in by the government to help survivors.
