"very very long wait for everything"

About: St Mary's Hospital (Newport)

i was told one day that i have to come in the following day at 12 (noon) to be induced, and i begged if i can have abit more time, so i can sort out my kids, but was told no, so i came in the following day at noon, but then i ended up waiting 4 hours until i was given a room, and meanwhile had to just walk around the hospital, and then was only seen to the following morning, i ended up waiting almost 24 hours just to start being seen to, and then the same went the whole way through, every little thing took forever, and it did not seem like any of them were bothered by how long its taking them, every time they said they are gonna come to do something, or get the doctor to check something, i knew that will end up taking at least 12 hours until they come, and i met here a friend, who discharged herself after waiting 3 days for a bed in the delivery unit, everything takes here forever...

Firstly apologies for the delayed response from the Trust.

I would like to extend sincere apologies that you were required to wait for your induction of labour (IOL)

We value your feedback as it provides us with a sense check of where improvements can be made.

I have shared your comments with our senior team.

From your experience it suggests we were in a period of very high activity. However our minimum expectation would be that you were kept informed of activity, and I am sorry this did not happen in your case.

As a service maternity aim to work alongside our women taking an holistic view and recognising the challenges of family life.

Each shift has a coordinator that plans activity and normally if we are unable to start an IOL then we would risk assess mother and baby’s wellbeing and take a telephone number to call you in when there was availability of a bed and allocated time for IOL.

We are really sorry that your experience fell below what we would expect for you.

If you would like to discuss your care further please contact either our Birth Afterthoughts Midwife via iownt.birthchoicesandafterthoughts@nhs.net or via telephone 822099 Ext 3644

Please do not hesitate to contact us.
