My mum required to be seen by GP out of hours for assessment. We attended the Queen Margaret Hospital as requested. My mum was anxious and was wanting me to come with her when she was called through. When she was called I was told I had to wait in the waiting area, on stating that she wanted me with her I was told I was not aloud and the Dr left without finding out the reasons why.
I understand the pressures of covid and risk assessing however as a healthcare worker I was under the impression that patients came first and in certain circumstances we should aim to be supportive where necessary. My mum is a pensioner with medical conditions which make her susceptible to serious infections and hospitalisations, she is extremely anxious when having to come into hospital for any reason.
This is not the first time I have had issues in Queen Margaret Hospital, although I did not highlight this issue at the time. Again whilst with my mum attending minor injuries, reception staff were very abrupt when I said she needed me with her, I was rudely told well you probably wont get in the room with the nurse as it is a small room! Then the staff member stormed off.
Working in an environment myself seeing patients on a daily basis, we should be seen to be courteous, helpful and supportive of the patients requiring our services.
