"Horrific hysteroscopy experience"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Gynaecology (Ward 13)

(as a service user),

Due to post menopause bleeding ,I was referred for a hysteroscopy and biopsy. The whole experience was absolutely horrific ,I have good pain threshold have had 2 children one a forceps delivery, this pain without G A was far worse .During this procedure the Doctor recommended fitting a coil there and then  with no prior discussion, I was in so much pain and just wanted  this over with so I agreed.

I was crying, obviously deeply distressed  my tongue was badly bitten I was sent to get dressed .No recovery time, no compassion !

I struggled to walk to my  car a stranger opened the door for me

I cried for 15 minutes then tried to drive home but I couldn't manage the drive and had to phone my husband to collect me . I have looked online and  have learnt that there are  100s of woman  who have been traumatized by this  practice .

Dear frostth96

Firstly I am sorry to hear your experience within our clinic has caused you so much distress. This is certainly not the standard of care we strive to deliver and would hope all of our patients feel safe and supported throughout any treatment. If you are willing to, I would be keen to speak with you directly to enable us to learn from your experience and improve things for the future. I would ask you contact our Patient Affairs department on 01698 366558 who will arrange a suitable time for us to talk.

With Kind Regards

Kim Brown
