"GI Nurse CSSU Wd 303 clinic"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Clinical Short Stay

(as the patient),

Had appt at ARI for my Nasal Gastric Tube (NGT), like many people things aren't the same,  communication not as it was pre C-19 so I was anxious & apprehensive as I had been initially told 6wks on ngt then 2mths, anyway 3mths on & I got an appt via the post, David who I had to contact to ask about appt was great too.

When I got to appt Specialist GI Nurse Sally called me I introduced herself then I broke down I tears, Sally was so kind, professional & with empathy listened to me, then gave me some answers before changing my tube. Sally talked me through the whole procedure when I was ready, then while she changed the ng tube etc talked about what she was doing not once did I feel I was being an awkward patient or some neurotic person.  Even suggested a different type of dressing to secure the tube to my face.

I understand the NHS is changing but please remember communication helps a person, I felt like I was in limbo.

Nutricia who delivers my feed keeps saying about my address being rural so there's a delay at times when my pump was squeaking it took 5 days to get replacement as this area they don't do next day delivery.

Hello Miss DMU,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a kind & honest feedback for us. I'm sorry to hear you had a wait for an extended period of time for your appointment with no update, which caused you increased anxiety.

I have shared your very kind comments with the GI nurse Sally, who remembers you well and is thankful for your compliment with the care she gave you.

Communication is definitely at the heart of nursing and something we are always striving to do well, and Sally was thankful to hear that she has achieved this with professionalism.

In relation to the communication whilst awaiting for your appointment invite, I will share your comment with the rest of the GI team to try and improve within this area, to help relieve anyone else's anxiety caused by waiting in limbo.

I will also share your comments with the Nutricia link nurse, to see if she can pass on your feedback to the company, to hopefully help with improvements in delivery to your area.

Thank you again for the comments and giving us the chance to further improve.

Hello Miss DMU,

I have shared your comments with the Nutritia nurse linked to ARI W104, asking her to share them with the company, in the hope they can improve service within your area. The comment back from the nurse is as follows - Without having any details it will be difficult for our Quality Assurance Team to investigate but if the person wants to contact Nutricia directly then they can do this for them.

I hope this helps and sorry I am unable to progress this further for you. Should you require any further assistance, please get back in touch with myself.

Lesley.
