"Superior care Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Cardiology

(as a service user),

I was admitted a couple of weeks ago to Taw ward for an ICD and pacemaker fitting. It was a good experience - if one has to have one fitted. From the moment I arrived on the ward the atmosphere was caring and helpful.

The receptionists responded to arrival on the ward very quickly and soon I met my admission nurse who was very attentive. The information I received was just right. I had felt anxious about the procedure previously but on admission I was put at my ease and all was well. I was kept informed about what was going on and treated with respect. I soon knew when I was to go into the cath lab. My experience in the cath. lab was calm and peaceful. Again I was kept informed about what was going on and soon I was recovering and the wound was clipped. The sedation was perfect. I returned to the ward and soon I was offered food and a drink - my gluten sensitivity was perfectly cared for.

The afternoon passed quickly in sleep and then it was time for X-ray. The porter was polite and caring. On my return I did not have to wait at all for a porter to return me to the ward.

Back on the ward I was fed again and the food was quite good. Eventually my wound stopped oozing and I was allowed home. I was wheeled down to reception to meet my wife who had spent the day at the hospital. Her telephone enquiries to the ward were answered quickly, politely and with she was kept well informed.

I would like thank all the staff of Taw Ward and the Cath Lab 2 for their kindness and superior caring within their professional roles that made the experience much better than expected.
