I woke up yesterday morning at about 6.30 with chest pains and called an ambulance which got me to the QE hospital at about 7.10.
A & E seemed a little under pressure at the start but gradually my experience got better and better. Having been diagnosed with a suspected heart attack there were no available beds, so I was still in A &E when I was visited by a cardiac consultant at about 4pm to tell me that they had a gap and would angiogram me straight away and treat me if they could at the same time.
The angiogram showed a completely blocked artery (the LAD which has blocked before). The cardiology team led by Mr George cleared the blockage with balloons and I was on cardiac ward 304 at about 6pm.
This morning (1st Oct) at about 10.30 I had an echo cardiogram (results in normal range), saw cardiac rehab people at 11.30, got my tablets to take home by 1.00, and was home by 1.30pm
Our NHS at its best! Home -treatment-home all within less than a day and a half! I experienced great individuals and teams in A&E, in the cath. lab, on 304 and also in the pharmacy, without omitting the lady who did my echo cardiogram, cardiac rehab nurse and all the ancillaries.
Well done UHB/QE!!
"Fantastic care and treatment"
