"Lack of attention to epileptics and eating"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I was in A&E after having a seizure and asked for something to eat as it is crucial for my blood sugar levels.

I was given a small glucose drink. This was unsuitable and not sustainable for someone who had not eaten in 9 hours.

I don't mind if I had to pay but a small glucose drink is not enough to get your energy levels up.

Medical staff ignored the importance maintain a good  blood sugar level for people with epilepsy.

Dear outflowngn56

Thank you for sharing your feedback on care opinion. I am sorry to hear that this was a negative experience for you.

We take feedback seriously and look for any opportunity to improve our services. The points you have raised in relation to the glucose drink you were given, when you asked for something to eat, will be discussed and reviewed in more detail with senior staff. Thereafter, the Senior Nurse will share any learning points with the clinical team in the Emergency Department.

May I take this opportunity to thank you once again for sharing your story and I hope you are now keeping in better health.

Kind regards.

Lesley
