"Professional, compassionate care"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Victoria Hospital / Admissions Unit 2 (Emergency Surgical) Victoria Hospital / Urgent Care Centre

(as a service user),

I contacted NHS 24 as I had a very high temperature, was in a great deal of pain with a urinary catheter and my heart was racing. I was referred to the Urgent Care Centre at VHK, which was quiet, clean and the staff were lovely. The doctor was concerned that I had sepsis and arranged for me to go straight to AU2 for screening.

The staff in AU2 quickly attended to me, providing me with excellent, swift care. Both the doctors, nurses and health care assistants were fantastic, swiftly getting a line in for fluids and a antibiotics. The ward was clean, calm and I felt reassured by the professional, compassionate nature of all clinicians. Thank you for saving me and avoiding septic shock.

Dear DarkLord

Thank you for contacting Care Opinion to share your experience. I sincerely hope you are doing much better after what sounds like quite an ordeal.

The staff who cared for you sound fantastic and clearly recognised the need to act quickly to avoid you becoming more unwell. Well done to them for their person-centred care. I am sure they will be delighted to read your complimentary feedback.

Thanks also for mentioning your call to NHS 24. From what you have shared, it seems our staff recognised you needed to be seen face to face and made the necessary arrangements. Here at NHS 24 we don't often hear the outcome for patients who are referred to be seen, therefore stories such as yours are great for our staff to see. Such stories reinforce for us the hugely important role we have in providing safe and effective patient care.

I wish you all the best for the future. Thanks again for getting in touch.

Shona
