"Fantastic maternity care"

About: Peterborough City Hospital

After a previous traumatic birth in another hospital I was terrified this time round. Although the birth didn't go as planned and I needed a C-section the experience has erased my past trauma. Every member of staff I came into contact with (and I was there for 3 days so it was a fair few) was professional, kind, caring and even though they were very busy, had time to go through all my concerns and deliver care on a personal level. Everything was thoroughly explained and the surgical team came by the next day to go through everything again, explain their actions, why they were taken and answer any questions. I felt completely informed with all decisions made and that my consent was sought at each point. It was a liberating experience and I can't thank all the staff enough. It has been wonderful to go home not suffering PTSD or PND like I did with my first birth and feeling prepared and capable to breastfeed following all the wonderful advice and help I had from the lactation consultants on the ward.
