While awaiting a heart valve operation on the Cardiac Ward my beloved 91 year old father suffered a stroke and my brothers and I were therefore allowed to visit. We witnessed the selfless and excellent care of the nursing team under lonely and stressful conditions on a daily basis for a month, the standard never slipped and they are deserving of the highest praise for the dignity and compassion they offer with such open hearts and dedication. My father was briefly on the Pelican Pathway and the Palliative team were also outstanding with their daily comfort. As to the three junior doctors we dealt with, their intelligence generosity of spirit and sheer understanding at this most devastating time will never be forgotten. Bereavement only heightens the depth of gratitude we feel to have such people in the NHS and they are its bedrock. There are problems with staffing and poor food but the motivation of the staff transcend that and I feel they must be better rewarded. One day every single one of us will need them and be grateful if we do. Thank you.
"Outstanding compassionate care"
