I broke my wrist last Spring. I stood up from my garden chair and wobbled backwards. I reached behind me to save myself on the way down but did hurt my wrist. I knew when I turned on to my hands and knees that there was a problem. My wrist buckled under me. My husband was available to take me to St Andrew's Community Hospital for an x-ray, which confirmed a broken wrist. I felt astonished to have reached the age of 60 without having broken a bone and then to fall during lockdown, at home!
It was x-rayed at St Andrew's Community hospital.
I received a follow up call from a Fracture Liaison Nurse who invited me to have a Dexa bone scan, considering my age and my 'fragility fracture'.
It transpired that I have Osteoporosis. The Fracture Liaison Nurse, Karen, based at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, has been most attentive in her communications with me.
With her helpful advice and support, I am about to begin treatment for Osteoporosis, which I wouldn't otherwise have known I had.
I can't praise her enough!
"A broken wrist and follow up care"
