"Excellent care and communication"

About: Adult Community Services / Continence Team

(as a service user),

I had an appointment for a Catheter change at the Archers Centre. This is the first time I've had this done since I was discharged from hospital at the end of June. I'd already had a couple of visits from the nurses about managing the catheter.

I came in and saw Nurse Bannon, and of course, she was fantastic. All staff I came in contact with were helpful, but nurse Bannon did a great job changing the catheter. I'm 84, and I was quite tense, and nervous, for my first time with this procedure. Obviously I needed some reassurance. She was fantastic. Put me right at east. Excellent skills and competency, and provided excellent information to help me avoid problems further down the line. She was able to manage the procedure in a friendly way and explained everything enough to reassure my wife, who was a bit worried. Just excellent care and communication.

It's a huge comfort to have this service on hand, just good to know there is backup help right there when I need it. I'd just like to say a great big thank you to everyone at the Archer's centre continence service. And to Nurse Bannon in particular.

Dear chachamn58,

Thankyou for taking the time to provide feedback about your experience whilst attending your appointment for your catheter change.

It is reassuring and heartening to hear that the reassurance Mary provided with her excellent clinical and communication skills in such a friendly manner, helped to put you at ease, especially as this was the first time you experienced this procedure. It is also wonderful that Mary was able to support and reassure your wife.

I will pass your words of appreciation to Mary, she will be delighted knowing that she made your experience such a positive one.

May I offer you the best of wishes, and hope that your experience will help you with all future appointments. Mary and her colleagues are always contactable by telephone if you need any support between appointments.

Yours Sincerely

Deborah McLaughlin
