Mum has been in and out of st Mary's (Isle of Wight) Nhs trust hospital 4 times in the last 5 wks. We can not visit under Covid rules. We are Not getting any info on her care, prognosis and future rehabilitation (if any) as our calls are not answered. We are lucky if 1 call out of 20+ a week is answered. The nurse is rarely available so all we know is "status quo". In this case mum has severe respiratory failure and is waiting for respite care (so far as we know. ) She is 76, long term smoker, now on permanent oxygen, dreadful water retention with "wet leg". Although her physical condition is critical, I need to speak to her medical team, to have her mental condition assessed, as I believe she has "given up" thus I urgently need to know what can be done to ease her mental anguish - if anything! I
Very frustrating even allowing for the appalling strain the Nhs is under due to Covid.
