My father has been in and out of Southmead several times over toast few months, various wards. I can't fault his actual care but I do have massive problems with the lack of communication with families. There is only me to help my father, and I live 3 hours away, as I explain every time. He won't use mobile phone, so I am reliant on phoning the ward, or them phoning me. Every ward is the same - they don't pick up the phone. I can call 100 times a day and not get through. Eventually I get a message that they are sending him home, so I come racing back to Bristol, but he doesn't come home, and I spend all evening calling, no answer, etc. Just tell families what is going on, please. I don't care if it's a call or an email or a text or what, just don't leave us in the dark for days and expect us to be available to pick up the pieces at moment's notice.
