"Hip replacement surgery in a pandemic"

About: General practices in Fife Victoria Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a service user),

Hip replacement NHS Fife.

Clunky, crunchy hip joint getting worse over 5 years. X-ray - Dec 2020 - Seen within 12 weeks, op offered within another 12 weeks (during a pandemic) Op at Victoria Kirkcaldy - great staff, lots of advice, reassurance. Low haemoglobin after op offered transfusion felt better almost immediately. Fife council delivered mobility aids for recovery period: sticks, shower stool, perching chair - thank you Fife Council. Home on paracetamol after 4 days. Not strong enough, GP offered cocodamol - magic! Needed lots of help for first 3/4 weeks - awkward sleeping, dressing, sitting. A Live- in daughter came to stay!! Gradually progressing. Hip feels great 6 weeks on, ankle very swollen and stiff - seemingly quite normal!

So far so good!!

Dear Granobel

Many thanks for your lovely feedback on care opinion and that staff were great and you felt reassured. I shall share this with everyone you mentioned.

I am sorry that you had to go to your GP as you were sore but glad that the cocodomal worked like magic. As you mentioned your ankle is swollen and stiff please do not hesitate to get in touch with ward 10 on 01592 648010 and someone can give you advice.

Hope you are recovering well.

Take care

Pauline
