"A life saving experience"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Cardiology / Coronary Care Unit Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Cardiothoracic (Heart and Lung) Ward Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Emergency Medicine Scottish Air Ambulance

(as a service user),

I had a suspected heart attack on top of Mountain Tolmount . I am a healthy person in my 70's with no previous history of heart problems. I experienced chest pain and a pain in my left arm. A 999 call patched through to Tayside Mountain Rescue resulted in a Scottish Air Ambulance arriving within 15 minutes and making a tricky landing. Immediate treatment by the ambulance paramedics stabilized me en-route to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary during the 15 minute journey.

Expert, speedy assessment by A&E staff confirmed suspected heart attack. Prompt transfer to the Cat Theatre allowed for fitting of a stent following an angiogram and angioplasty, all within the magic 2 hour window. The emergency team working was a wonder to behold

Observation and treatment in ward 106 and 109 was followed by discharge.

All in all I counted approximately 40 people who had a direct input to my rescue and treatment. Their professionalism was simply outstanding. There was a wonderful combination of expert care and human concern that was simply admirable. For me, it was literally  a lifesaving experience. Thank you NHS.

Because of all of you I hope to be back on the hills in three months.

Dear Munroist

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your Feedback here on CareOpinion.

What a terriyfying experience this must have been for you, especially being on top of a mountain and so far from everything when you felt so unwell! It's really wonderful to read about all the outstanding care given from our Service as well as those of the wider NHS and not forgetting Mountain Rescue! And I should say, thank goodness for modern technology when your call could be made for help too.

If you would like me to pass on your kind comments to our crew, I would be delighted to do this for you. If so, please may I ask you contact our Feedback Team at sas.feedback@nhs.scot with your name and date we attended to you, please may I also ask you make reference to your username which will help us to easily link with your story.

I hope it's not too long before you are back to walking those hills again

Thanks you once again

Best Wishes

Lesley
