I could not wake my husband in the morning. The ambulance crew arrived within 15 minutes and were amazingly professional and sympathetic, even thinking to remind me to take a phone charger to the hospital. My husband was taken to RESUS and I was informed of every stage of his treatment. The consultant was so empathetic when he told me that my husband could not survive and the wonderful transplant team treated my family and me with great humanity and respect, being very clear of what was involved. We were able to be with my husband when he died and afterwards and the support we received, and continue to receive, has been outstanding. I shall always be thankful for all those who made a ghastly time as bearable as possible.
