"Unable to get 2nd dose early"

About: NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde / Covid Vaccination Programme

(as a service user),

I have been attempting to receive my second dose of the Pfizer vaccination. I received the first one 5 weeks ago, and because this is below the recommended 8 weeks, I have had no luck in being able to receive it. I am partaking in a compulsory year abroad as part of my studies at university and physically need the vaccine in order to get into France, which I am due to travel to 2 weeks on Saturday, therefore I would require the vaccine prior to this Saturday. I have been told different things by multiple people and this is my last resort as public health/my GP have stated that it is the decision of the Scottish government and think this is extremely disappointing

Given the necessity and the potential impact this could have on my career prospects, given it is clinically proven safe to administer the vaccine after 3-4 weeks. I know multiple people who have been able to get it before the 8 week date but I seem to be turned away constantly and told unless I am part of the armed forces I am not able to, which I believe highlights how it is completely possible to receive the vaccine, but just needs approval from a higher power.

Dear uniformj45

Thanks for getting in touch as requested. Further to our telephone conversation yesterday and due to the fact that your don't reside within the NHSL area, unfortunately I am unable to assist and would suggest that you contact colleagues in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Hopefully my colleagues in NHS GGC will respond to your post in due course.

Kind regards.

Lesley

Dear By uniformrj45

I have spoken to my colleagues from the Vaccination Team and they have advised that as the National Guidance says that there should be a minimum of 8 weeks between the 1st and 2nd dose they would be unable to provide your second dose sooner. The Vaccination Team have advised that once you have reached the 8 weeks you would be able to use one of the drop in vaccination centres. You can access the list of centres at http://https://www.nhsggc.org.uk/your-health/health-issues/covid-19-coronavirus/for-patients-the-public/covid-vaccinations/drop-in-vaccinations/ and this page is regularly updated.

I am very sorry that I do not have better news for you.

Kind Regards

Nicole
