"Hysteroscopy"

About: University Hospital Of Wales / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I had a hysteroscopy and polypectomy under general anaesthetic at Llandough and the experience was really positive. The staff were brilliant and caring and I made a very quick recovery. Initially I was scheduled to have this procedure done under local anaesthetic but having experienced a very painful biopsy (with no pain relief) which left me fearful, I insisted on having it done under general anaesthetic. Every woman who needs a hysteroscopy should have the opportunity to discuss pain relief options with her consultant and not be steered or pressured towards local anaesthetic as though it were her only choice. Here’s hoping that an individualised discussion about pain relief for this procedure can become standard, it might save a lot of unecessary distress. Thanks again to the consultant who treated me and all the team at Llandough for your care.
