"They don't want to let my son come inside with me"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

Recently, around 4:00 pm, I went to the Emergency Department together with my son, and the doorman and the person at the desk didn't want to let my son come inside with me to the waiting room. I am very ill, and I need my son, to be with me! he speaks perfect English, he has care of me all the time. I have depression and anxiety, diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis, horrible allergies skin, asthma, eczema, etc. I can not move well alone, I need help with that. I was crying all the time in the waiting room.

My son waits for me for more than 2 hours outside on the street, because the doorman wants so, he told to my son to go on the street! They don't want to let my son come inside with me because of covid, rules. But the doorman let many other patients 2 together to go inside! He decides the rules? You can check this on your CCTV.

The person from desk and the doorman from the entrance have talked together looking together at me at the same time and laugh. I was crying and felt like nothing, in the waiting room. I felt discriminated against. I wanted to go home after so much time to wait for a doctor because I have had a lot of pain in my knees, I was crying, I needed to go to the toilet, I was so lonely and lost. I just wanted to go home, not more wait to see the doctor after 2 hours of waiting.

But the nurse came to stop me, they took me to the room. Only one person took care of me, the nurse from a room on the right side next to the waiting room. She deserves 5 STARS. Thank you for your kindness! You were an angel for me yesterday, God bless you! I waited more than 2 hours to be received for a consultation. Many patients who come after me inside were all attended. Maybe the person at the desk decided so because I am not English. I felt discriminated against! After two hours of waiting, I was the last one attended( just for 5 minutes) by a doctor.

Hospital Staff who was coming inside, into the A&E, did not use the sanitizer solution from the doorman, just taken a face mask( this can be seen on CCTV, and my son has seen it and me too, when I was finished with my consultation), but the doorman he told to each other people to use the sanitizer. So covid rules are done by him, only for other people !!? Hospital staff don't have to use hand sanitizer?

Also, I like to ask if the rules about Covid are done by the doorman and their friend the person from the desk, if the doorman can let to go inside two people only if he like them?!.

Dear julybp66

Thank you so much for your feedback, we will ensure the nursing team are made aware of your fantastic feedback, in relation to your experience with the security officer they do work to a strict guideline in relation to patients being accompanied, as your son would have only provided interpretation skills which we can access 24/7 this is not classed as a justified reason for need him with you for your care episode. I appreciate you felt anxious and scared initially without him but it sounds as if the nursing team did exactly as they should and made your experience better.

Best wishes

Dear julybp66

I am sorry that you did not feel I fully answered the concern raised, the security team do work to a strict narrative given to them by the Trust in relation to ensuring patients and carers adhere to the Infection prevention control policy of the hospital, I will make sure your concerns are passed to our head of security to ensure the team are consistent in their approach to this.

In relation to allowing patients to be accompanied in to the Department I cannot comment of individual cases as this would be a breach of patient confidentiality but I can confirm it is not based on personal selection of the security team

Best wishes

Jemma
